The Death of Fidelity

We all knew him at some point...

For most of us, he entered our lives in our teenage years. He introduced us to his friends: Love, Hope, and Happiness. He was a nice guy - never asking for much despite being the glue that held our relationships together. When he grew weak, Love and Hope would be there by his side. Whenever Fidelity was around, Happiness was close by. For this reason we cherished Fidelity; symbolized him with rings and other tokens to represent our unwavering relationship with him, Love, and Hope.

But then we lost sight of Hope after Love took a few hits due to a couple of broken hearts. We felt Fidelity had betrayed us - we felt he wasn't going to help us get to know Happiness after all.

Enter Temptation.

Temptation was the step-child of Happiness. Everyone knew she wasn't truly Happiness, but the relationship was close enough. After Hope was lost, Temptation convinced us that she was the only way we would get to know Happiness. We were reluctant to believe such things at first. We had never known Happiness without Hope and Fidelity. Nevertheless, after further convincing from her friend, Selfishness, we decided to try this "shortcut" and gave Temptation a try.

We liked hanging out Temptation, she made us feel good. She was constantly stroking our egos, reassuring us that we could have whatever we want - when we wanted it. She encouraged us to live in the here & now; to act on our primitive urges. So what if our significant others didn't want affection? Temptation reminded us that we deserved it. Deep down, we knew it was wrong. It had went against everything Fidelity taught us. Yet Temptation intoxicated us with drugs, alcohol, heart-ache, and lust; making us miserable to the point where Selfishness was finally able to convince us to make ourselves happy. We didn't care how it would make our significant others feel. Temptation and Selfishness had made us want Happiness so bad - we were willing to cheat to get there.

And so we did.

As expected, Happiness did greet us for a short amount of time, but he didn't stick around long; so we turned back to Temptation and Selfishness in hopes that they would take us back there again.

Word had got back to Fidelity of our actions, and he informed Love and Hope of our deeds. Naturally, Love and Hope moved away - this was no place for them; and Guilt and Despair filled the void that they left behind. With his two best friends gone, Fidelity began to become weak. No one came to visit him much in his last few days as everyone was far too occupied with Temptation and Selfishness - forever seeking another opportunity to briefly meet Happiness once again.

Fidelity knew that Temptation would only tease us with the thought of getting to know Happiness. He wished that everyone would've kept Love and Hope close by, but he understood how appealing Temptation and Selfishness could be. With Guilt and Despair living across the street, Fidelity knew this wasn't the place for him anymore either. He had to move on.

No one really knew where Fidelity went. In a search for him, they went to find Love and Hope, but were only met with Guilt and Despair.

It's rumored that Happiness and Fidelity are out there somewhere, but its just a rumor. Some have claimed to find Love, thus keeping sight of Hope, and knowing that Fidelity still exists...
